FREEDOM FESTIVAL ART CONTEST RESULTS
The Freedom Festval sponsored an art contest this winter, which was open to all Conestoga students. Nine entries were received. Discovering that our local students demonstrate some amazing art talent, made the selection process very difficult.
On Wednesday, April 12th, the top two winners received their recognition and awards. At a presentation at school in the presence of their friends and peers, runner-up, freshman, Jackson Steckler, and first-prize winner, senior, Andrew Jimenez, received framed copies of their submissions and gift cards to Blick Art Supply store from the Festival's Co-Vice president, Matt Lewis and Treasurer, Nikki Lewis.
Andrew's entry, shown below, will become the sole property of the Freedom Festival and will be modified to become their official logo.
Runner-up, Jackson Steckler's, entry is shown below.
The Festival Board would like to thank Conestoga principal, Dave Friedli and art instructor, Jesse Swantek, for their assistance in the contest, and especially to all the students who submitted entries.

Women, Are You Ready for Some Fun?
Recreational activities abound in Platte River State Park at the
event, April 29-30. If you enjoy being outdoors, but want to gain more confidence, this is the place for you!
No experience necessary! Workshops are tailored primarily to women who are beginners or just eager to improve their knowledge of outdoor activities. You will have the opportunity to gain skills in a comfortable environment and lodge in cabins.
The deadline to register for this workshop is Friday, April 21st.

If you have a few items you no longer want or need, please consider donating them to the Murray Freedom Festival's rummage sale on May 19th and 20th. Items must be clean and in good or repairable condition.
You can deliver your items to the Murray Christian Church, 304 W. Young Street, on Thursday, May 18th, between 3 and 8 p.m. If you cannot bring your items to the church, call one of the numbers below and we'll arrange to pick them up for you!

In order to make our carnival successful, we need around 100 volunteers. We are in great need for volunteers, especially the second shift of the night. The shifts run from 5:00-7:00 or 7:00-9:00. Please consider signing up for a shift, or encouraging any groups or Conestoga High School students to volunteer their time to this community event.
We are also looking for a few more donations. Primarily, we need more cakes/cupcakes for the cake walk and individual bags of potato chips. To sign up for donations or volunteer time, please go to the following:

THE KIDS NEED YOUR HELP!
Hunger is an evil thing. Without enough good food, you can't think clearly, your immune system becomes compromised and you can become sick more often. With Spring now here, they also need lighter clothing, shorts, short-sleeved shirts and tops, sundresses, etc.
When you donate to the Conestoga Backpack Program, the school staff sends food, hygiene and clean clothes home with more than 30 needy kids.
You may donate items at any time through May. There is a container at Cornerstone Bank, you may take items to Conestoga Elementary School, or call Jill, 402-660-3543, and she'll arrange to have your items picked up at your home.
It's easy to help. Each time you go to the grocery store, just pick up one extra item for the kids.
*Suggested food items should be somewhat easy for small children to open and prepare:

Junior Vet Camp
For students completing 2nd - 5th grades
The Oxbow Junior Veterinarian Camp is designed especially for children who have a passion for animals and veterinary medicine.
The 4-day camp includes many hands-on activities involving live animals, games and unique crafts.
Campers learn about veterinary tools, x-rays, body systems and functions, and important issues like animal over-population. In addition, they also get to practice activities like real veterinarians perform, including record-keeping and animal health exams.
At the end of camp, they perform a mock surgery, using all that they’ve learned. Campers get their very own set of scrubs and a stethoscope to take home.

.Plattsmouth Adult EducationAdds Job Skills and New Class Times
Plattsmouth Community School District Adult Education begins its 40th year with a new focus on College and Career Readiness. The Federal Government has charged all adult education programs with preparing students for college and the workplace. Plattsmouth is stepping up. PCSD will integrate job search, workplace skills, and college preparation into its GED, English language, and Adult Basic Education courses.
To meet this challenge, an additional class session is being offered on Thursday mornings.
Classes are offered Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday during the public school year at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., at the PACE Center, 15508 2nd Ave. The PACE Center is located across from the high school to the west.

LOOKING FOR PART-TIME WORK?
The following is an employment opportunity available to older adults in Cass County.
Experience Works is a national, non-profit organization funded by the US Dept of Labor to administer the Senior Community Service Employment Program, which assists people 55 and older in getting updated training to assist in returning to the workforce. This is a federally funded program and offers a no-cost employment service to older adults who qualify.
Once accepted into the program, individuals are placed in a training site in or near their community, where they gain on the job experience while working 20-21 hours/week at $8/hour.
We also help with skill assessments, computer training, resumes, cover letters, job search, etc.
The goal is that through the training and job search assistance we gain help older adults gain good jobs in or around their communities.
