Child Support Payment Center to Open Tuesday
in New Offices on Ninth Street

Lincoln, Neb. (October 4, 2017) – The Nebraska Child Support Payment Center will open for business Tuesday, October 10, in a new location in the Heritage Square Office Building at 421 S. Ninth St. in downtown Lincoln.

The new location is just a block and a half from the Child Support Payment Center’s previous location at 233 S. Tenth St., its home since it opened in 2001. Business will be conducted as usual at the current location until 3 p.m. Friday, October 6. The new office will be open for business at 8 a.m. Tuesday, October 10. State offices, including the Child Support Payment Center, are closed Monday in recognition of Columbus Day.

The Child Support Payment Center, a division of the Nebraska State Treasurer’s Office, is responsible for collecting and disbursing child support payments through an interagency agreement with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). DHHS and county attorneys are charged with enforcement of non-custodial parents’ responsibilities for child support.
“This new location in downtown Lincoln is well suited to the Child Support Payment Center’s scaled-down needs and will be convenient for non-custodial parents paying child support,” said State Treasurer Don Stenberg. “Greater reliance on the electronic transfer of money through the years has enabled the center to reduce both its workforce and the space required for its operation and still serve families well.”

Inside the north entrance to the Heritage Square location, a walk-up window will be staffed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays to accept cashiers’ checks and money orders and to help non-custodial parents making payments at the center’s self-serve kiosk. The kiosk will be accessible before and after business hours as well, from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. seven days a week. It is located in an inside lobby with a security camera at the north entrance.

Metered parking will be available on Eighth and Ninth streets, and one handicapped parking stall will be reserved near the entrance to the building.

The new location offers 5,500 square feet of space and is available to the Treasurer’s Office through a space allocation agreement with the State Building Division of the Nebraska Department of Administrative Services. The center’s current location includes 7,000 square feet.
“The Nebraska Child Support Payment Center has been at the forefront of adapting technology to improve efficiency and security and to lower the cost of receiving and disbursing child support payments, while at the same time ensuring that families promptly receive the child support to which they are entitled,” Stenberg said.

Today 82 percent of all child support payments are received electronically—compared with 14 percent in 2002, the first full year of operation—and 98 percent of all child support payments are distributed electronically—compared with 41 percent in the beginning.

2016 SPEER FAMILY

A LOVING, LASTING TRIBUTE...

*YOU STILL HAVE TIME TO ORDER YOUR MEMORIAL BRICK PAVER!

Last October 20, 2016, as children were anxiously anticipating Halloween and lots of trick-or-treating, a beautiful, young family of six perished in the night, as their rural home went up in flames. Four little girls, Elli, Adilynn, Emma, ages 11, 7 and 5, were students at Conestoga Elementary and had many friends, in and around the surrounding area, as did their baby sister, Anniston, 2, and their parents, Mike and Michelle Speer.

In honor of her family, JoLynne Lehan, Mike's mom, has directed that donations go to Conestoga's outdoor classroom, Cougar Hollow. With the four little girls' love of performing, playing and being out-of-doors exploring nature, in mind, the new additions for this special area will include a pavilion for outdoor instruments, a chalkboard and chairs. A memorial fountain will be added at a later date.

A brick walking path will direct visitors to this special area. If you would like to honor this family with a loving tribute, you may purchase a  memorial brick paver for $75. You may add any name to be engraved on the brick. There is space for 3 rows, with each row including a total of 14 characters, (including spaces). The clock is ticking...you need to order soon. Download an order form with complete directions and contact information here.

Thank you for helping to make this vision possible!

.*BRICKS ARE ALREADY IN AND WILL BE ENGRAVED AS THEY'RE SET IN THE GROUND.

‘Boeing Boeing’ Ready for Take Off at the Lofte Theatre!

The Lofte Community Theatre announces the opening of its Fall farce, Marc Camoletti’s fast-paced comedy, ‘Boeing Boeing!’ The production opens Saturday, October 14 on the Lofte’s main stage.

Set in the bustling1960s, Bernard is a swinging bachelor who has the world on a string: a flat in Paris and three gorgeous stewardesses whom are all engaged to him at the same time without knowing about each other. However, Bernard’s life encounters turbulence when his friend Robert comes for a visit and a new speedier Boeing jet throws off his carefully planned itinerary. Catastrophe looms when all three stewardesses come into town simultaneously and friend Robert keeps forgetting what helpful lies he’s told to whom!

Starring in the show as the troubled Bernard is Doug Rothgeb of Omaha. His best friend Robert is played by Robert Carrera of Bellevue. The bevy of beautiful stewardesses are played by Aubree Sweeney of Plattsmouth, Brenna Thompson of Lincoln and Abigail Fletcher of Omaha. Fan favorite Melinda Mead of Plattsmouth plays the bad-tempered housekeeper, Berthe.

Directed by Kevin Colbert, production dates are October 14, 15, 19-22 and 27-29. Thursday through Saturday curtain times are 7pm. Sunday performances are 2pm matinees. Tickets are $19 each and advance reservations can be made by calling the Lofte box office at 402.234.2553.

Pictured in front: Brenna Thompson (Lincoln) and Aubree Sweeney (Plattsmouth) and in back row, Melinda Mead (Plattsmouth), Robert Carrera (Bellevue), Doug Rothgeb (Omaha) and Abigail Fletcher (Omaha).

Adult Education finds new home at First Presbyterian Church

Plattsmouth’s Adult Education Program, including Adult Education, GED, and English Language classes, have a spacious new home in the First Presbyterian Church CE Building at 701 Chicago Avenue, Plattsmouth. The CE Building is the smaller of the Church’s two buildings.

“We have two large and comfortable rooms for classes this school year. We feel very happy to have room to move around easily and keep learning materials where students can readily use them. We have additional student-use computers as well,” said Program Director Tallie VanWesten. “We are grateful for this excellent new space and the First Presbyterian Church’s welcome.”

Classes are held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from 6:30 to 9 p.m. each week. Classes will begin Tuesday, Sept. 5 with orientation sessions. Orientation for the morning class will begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue until noon. Evening class orientation begins from 6:30 to 9 p.m. This is a good time to complete the required paperwork, set up your computer-study accounts, and share your learning goals. Teachers will be available to answer questions during orientation. New students and returning students should attend orientation. Get your school year off to an excellent start at orientation.

Morning and evening classes started Thursday, Sept. 7 at the same times listed above.

For more information about Adult Education, polishing your math, language, science and social studies skills; GED classes and testing; and English language classes; call Program Director Tallie Van Westen at 402-296-3174 Ext. 2315.

Classes are free. Everyone is welcome. Start your adult education classes in our new location. Now is the time!
