BIG NEWS!
The MURRAY FREEDOM FESTIVAL is now registered with the State of Nebraska and the IRS as being a 501(c)(3) NONPROFIT CORPORATION!! The generosity and hard work of our volunteers all working together made this happen in just a couple of months. This annual 4th of July celebration in Murray wouldn't be possible without friends working together for the common good. Let's keep it going! Donations given to the Freedom Festival are now tax-deductible!
It's funny when someone says, 'I don't know our plans for the 4th yet...it's so far away'. Well, if you would just say, 'I'll be in Murray for the Freedom Festival', then you DO have a plan! Don't procrastinate...MARK YOUR NEW CALENDARS for the FIRST TUESDAY of EVERY MONTH when volunteers meet at Murray's Town Hall at 7 p.m. to plan and organize the celebration. (In June there will be an extra meeting or two as the big day gets closer.) EVERYONE'S welcome to join in and share their suggestions and ideas. You don't have to be a Murray resident.
The next meeting will be February 2nd. Hope to see you there!

ASSISTANCE DOGS to BENEFIT from HAL PALS
Conestoga 7th and 8th grade HAL students (High-Ability Learner) are raising funds for KSDS in Washington, Kansas. This non-profit organization is dedicated to the training and placement of assistance dogs for individuals with disabilities. These wonderful animals help to promote the independence and inclusion of these people as fully-participating and contributing members of their communities and society.
From now through 1 pm, Wednesday, November 25, 2009, the students are participating in a fundraiser 'kick-start' contest to see who can raise the most money in a short amount of time. Some very brave school staff members have volunteered to kiss a dog or get a pie in the face, for those collecting the most money before Thanksgiving break! Donations will continue to be accepted by the students throughout the winter and spring months, however. (For those on your Christmas gift list who already have everything, consider giving a gift in their name to KSDS!)
You may send a check to "Conestoga HAL" in care of Conestoga School, P.O. Box 184, Murray, NE 68409 or contact any HAL student. Mrs. Rice, HAL Coordinator/Facilitator, would be happy to have a student pick up your donation, if you'd like. Just call the school, 402-235-2341, to speak with her. Your donation will be added to the students' fund for this project. It's their hope to visit KSDS in the spring to actually see these working dogs in action.
Please join the students in their efforts and make a donation to this worthwhile cause.
