State Treasurer Murante Issues Unclaimed Property Search Warning
Nebraska State Treasurer John Murante today stressed Nebraskans should never have to pay when searching for unclaimed property in their or a relative’s name. Some Nebraskans have contacted the Treasurer’s office, saying that companies had offered to find their property for a fee.
While there are other websites or companies that offer to find an individual’s unclaimed property, they may charge an exorbitant fee or contain other hidden charges. Treasurer Murante stressed that his office offers the service free of charge. Nebraskans can visit www.NebraskaLostCash.gov for in-state searches or www.MissingMoney.com for nationwide services. Both websites are easy to use, secure, and are free.
Individuals may also call toll free 1-877-572-9688 to be connected with a Nebraska Unclaimed Property Specialist, also at no charge.
“No Nebraskan should have to pay to have their unclaimed property returned to them, and it is frustrating to hear that they are falling victim to groups that charge unnecessary fees. I’m proud of the job my staff has done reuniting Nebraskans with their unclaimed property, averaging almost $15 million a year,” Murante said. “They work hard and should be a Nebraskan’s first stop during their search for unclaimed property.”

Tobacco Compliance Checks Completed in La Vista
La Vista, NE – Tobacco Education & Advocacy of the Midlands (T.E.A.M.) has completed tobacco compliance checks between July and September 2019. Of the 11 retail businesses checked, Dual Stop, 6912 S 110th St, was the only location that sold to a minor.
Since 2006, T.E.A.M. has collaborated with the La Vista Police Department to check tobacco license holders on a regular basis. Youth volunteers assist with the compliance checks, they use their own identification and make no attempt to appear older than the legal purchase age.
“It is important that tobacco retailers check identification properly, they are one of the most important links to preventing illegal sales of tobacco products to youth,” stated Autumn Sky Burns, Sarpy County Coordinator for T.E.A.M.
Tobacco Education & Advocacy of the Midlands is a coalition of health-related organizations, educational and community groups, and individuals. Its mission is to educate and advocate for healthy tobacco-free communities. For more information, visit teamtobaccofree.org.

Historian Harlan at Herban Coffee Lab
The second Saturday of each month, 10:00 am at Herban Coffee Lab, Plattsmouth, NE, 'Historian Harlan' will share stories of local characters from early last century. It's always interesting and interactive.
Come join us for some excellent coffee and local history!

The Conestoga Backpack Pantry serves the Murray, Nehawka, Union and Beaver Lake areas in southeast Nebraska, although we will not turn away anyone in need. Food packs are placed in the childrens' locker at school to take home on the weekends, helping to sustain them until returning to school the following week.
Your kind donation of non-perishable food items can be made at Cornerstone Bank in Murray during business hours, Monday-Friday: 8:00 am-4:00 pm. We can also pick up your items, if you cannot drop them off. Call Jill at 402-660-3543 to make arrangements.
Some ideas are cereal, juice boxes, granola bars, cereal bars, pancake mix, peanut butter, jelly, tuna or chicken salad packs, fruit cups, raisins, cheese and cracker snacks, macaroni and cheese cups, etc. Keep in mind that some of the children are very young and are possibly 'preparing' their own meals. Easy to open containers are a good option for little hands.
Each time you shop, just pick up one thing and set it aside and after a few weeks, drop off your bag of items at the bank or church.
Thank you!
