CONGRATULATIONS to PLATTSMOUTH ANIMAL SHELTER!
Kuranda pet beds sponsors a 'Dog of the Month' contest and donates five beds to a
winning shelter each month.
Laika was the dear friend of Plattsmouth's animal control officer, Sue Baker, who adopted
the 10-year-old dog from a shelter. Laika loved going to work and sleeping under Sue's desk
each day so, due to the arthritis in both of Laika's hips, Sue got Laika a Kuranda bed so the dog could
be more comfortable. Laika was then entered in Kuranda's 'Dog of the Month' contest to,
hopefully, help win beds for more of her canine friends at the shelter. Sadly, soon after the
September contest started, Laika fell very ill and Sue had to make the difficult decision
to have her best friend euthanized.
Online votes kept coming in and 'angel dog' Laika, got the most votes of
five dog contestants, winning five Kuranda beds for the Plattsmouth Animal Shelter!
Thank you, Laika!

Don't Dress For Dinner
The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley announces the opening of its fall farce,
"Don't Dress For Dinner," on Friday, October 15. The fast-paced script by Robin
Hawdon sees Bernard carefully preparing a romantic weekend in the country with
his mistress. His wife is off to visit her mother, a gourmet chef has been hired to
cater the evening and Bernard's friend will provide the alibi. What could possibly
go wrong? As is in every scripted farce, the audience is soon witness to a combi-
nation of misunderstandings, fibs and impossible situations. Lofte Artistic Director
Kevin Colbert produced this show during Mahoney State Park's winter season
several years ago where it still holds the record for highest attendance.
Kevin Colbert both directs and plays the lead in the Lofte production. The play also
stars Shari Hoelker and Doug Rothgeb of Omaha, Renae Koehler of Firth, Kevin
Holdorf of Manley and newcomer Toni Santee of Plattsmouth. Production dates are
October 15-16, 21-23 and 27-30. Thursday through Saturday curtain times are 7:30pm.
Sunday shows are 2pm matinees. General Admission tickets are $17 and can be
purchased either online at wwww.Lofte.com or by calling the box office (402) 234-2553.
The Lofte is holding a special fundraising event in conjunction with this production.
From October 27-30, audience members will have the opportunity to come early and
have a dinner theater experience right on stage! A cordon bleu menu has been speci-
fically designed to match the gourmet meal in "Don't Dress For Dinner." The cost is $25
in addition to the show ticket and advance reservations are required. Those who are
interested should call the box office with questions.

Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the FIFTEENTH ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE. This
historical, hysterical event will take place on Sunday, October 9, at 2:30 PM, downstairs in the Old Avoca,
Nebraska Schoolhouse.
In the Open Division, fiddlers will play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice. There will also be other
divisions of competition available for the adventurous fiddlers, including a Singing Fiddler's Contest, a
Twin Fiddler's Contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's Contest (fiddle tunes played on any instrument other than
a fiddle), and a Hocus-Pocus Contest, (cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.), which will give fiddlers
an opportunity to play tunes that are usually not allowed in any other contest. The prizes for the winners in
the Open Division are $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd place, and $25 for 3rd place. Prizes will also be
awarded for 1st place in the other contests.
Registration for contestants starts at 1:30 PM the day of the FIDDLING BEE.
