CHILD SUPPORT PAYMENT CENTER
to HOST EMPLOYER SEMINARS
Seminars for employers who remit child support on behalf of their employees will be offered Sept. 21 in Lincoln and Sept. 27 in Kearney, State Treasurer Don Stenberg said today.
The seminars are hosted by the Child Support Payment Center, a division of the Nebraska State Treasurer’s Office. There is no charge to attend.
Stenberg said employers attending the seminars will learn how to remit child support payments electronically. They also will hear about new hire reporting, verification and termination as well as income and medical withholding and remittance.
“We encourage employers to use electronic payments, and we continue to look for ways to make the process easier for them,” Stenberg said. “Electronic payments make good business sense for employers, resulting in lower costs for envelopes, postage, printing, and record-keeping. Electronic payments actually result in effeciencies throughout the system, including speedier payments to custodial parents and lower processing costs for the payment center.”
The Nebraska Child Support Payment Center, which has been a leader in promoting electronic payments, was ranked third in the nation in 2015 for the percent of child support payments received electronically.

Yankus Receives Lucille McLean Award for Excellence in Teaching!
Excellent teachers are remembered for a lifetime. During Plattsmouth’s Harvest Festival last Saturday, Monica Yankus, a long-time resident of Plattsmouth, received the 2016 Lucille McLean Award. Yankus is the kindergarten teacher at St. John the Baptist and has been with the school for 23 years.
According to parents, teachers and staff of St. John’s school, Yankus is especially deserving of this award. “Monica is beautiful example of many positive qualities; joy, professionalism, mentor, friend, educator and christian,” said Debi Baumert, art teacher at St. John’s and owner of Colour Art Studio. “Our community and it's youth are blessed to call Monica ours,” added Baumert.
The Lucille McLean award is given each year to an outstanding educator who has also been actively involved in the community. The award was presented to Yankus by the Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) Teacher's Honorary in memory of Lucille Essert McLean. McLean was a long time teacher in Cass County and a charter member of ADK.
“Monica's joyful personality is such a blessing to have for our children as they begin learning and loving Jesus and the various academic subjects,” said Fr. Loras Grell, chief administrator officer of St. John the Baptist and pastor at Church of the Holy Spirit.
Yankus who began her career as an art teacher, has been an active member of Church of the Holy Spirit in Plattsmouth for the 30 years. She currently serves on the school’s strategic planning committee and also helps with annual festivals and activities at the church. In addition, Yankus is an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma and currently serves as treasurer. She is a past member of the Organization of Plattsmouth Women, Extension Club and also has served on the Plattsmouth Public Library Board.
“I am honored and humbled by this award and by the support I've received from the Plattsmouth community and Church of the Holy Spirit,” said Yankus. “I accept this award on behalf of all the amazing teachers and staff at St. John’s who are also deserving of this recognition,” said Yankus.
Monica is married to Mike Yankus and they have two grown children Matt and Anne.

Plattsmouth Community School District Adult Education begins its 40th year with a new focus on College and Career Readiness. The Federal Government has charged all adult education programs with preparing students for college and the workplace. Plattsmouth is stepping up. PCSD will integrate job search, workplace skills, and college preparation into its GED, English language, and Adult Basic Education courses.
To meet this challenge, an additional class session is being offered on Thursday mornings.
Classes are offered Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday during the public school year at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., at the PACE Center, 15508 2nd Ave. The PACE Center is located across from the high school to the west.

20th ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING
Sunday, October 9, 2:30 PM, 20th Annual Schoolhouse Fiddling Bee
Greenblatt & Seay proudly announce the 20th ANNUAL SCHOOLHOUSE FIDDLING BEE. This historical, hysterical event will take place on Sunday, October 9, at 2:30 PM, downstairs in the Old Avoca, Nebraska Schoolhouse. In the Open Division, fiddlers will play a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice. There will also be other divisions of competition available for the adventurous fiddlers, including a Singing Fiddler's Contest, a Twin Fiddler's Contest, a Fee-Fi-Faux Fiddler's Contest (fiddle tunes played on any instrument other than a fiddle), and a Hocus-Pocus Contest (cross-tuning, sound effects, dancing, etc.), which will give fiddlers an opportunity to play tunes that are usually not allowed in any other contest.

Experience Works is a national, non-profit organization funded by the US Dept of Labor to administer the Senior Community Service Employment Program, which assists people 55 and older in getting updated training to assist in returning to the workforce. This is a federally funded program and offers a no-cost employment service to older adults who qualify.
Once accepted into the program, individuals are placed in a training site in or near their community, where they gain on the job experience while working 20-21 hours/week at $8/hour.
We also help with skill assessments, computer training, resumes, cover letters, job search, etc.
The goal is that through the training and job search assistance we gain help older adults gain good jobs in or around their communities.
